First, measure your van,
Then, create that comfy bed!
What I did
The first thing I did was building boxes for around the wheelwell. I wanted to do that first because I thought it would be the easiest plus if it isn’t the most beautiful box you won’t see it much anyway. A good strategy to learn!
My van has a depth of 1,60m which meant I could not build the bed sideways, so lengthway it was. I wanted a fixed bed to create as much garage space under the bed as possible, however I did not want to use all my van surface. My solution was to go for a partial pull out bed =
1,20m x 1,00m fixed bed + 0,70m x 1,00m pull out bed + 0,50m x 1,00 fixed bench.
What I've learned
It is going to take some time. I had never built anything in my life, so I still had to learn everything. Learning by doing and taking each step at the time. My mom had bought a jigsaw, luckily that was easy to learn. However, the most minor issues I hadn’t even thought about came up. But slowly we were getting there. The first day the frame took us a whole day! After that, it took us less and less time. It is fun and you feel accomplished after finishing a project like this!
You will make a mistake. I made a couple of mistakes and that is to be expected. Fortunately, they were minor and it didn’t matter too much. You just have to do it again or work around it.
